Behind/Education Yes! This is a link to the area on the MISD
webpage for information on the federal and
state accountability programs.
MEAP, MI Access and MME
Michigan Education Assessment Program (MEAP)
is given annually in grades 3 through
8. These assessments are bases on the
Michigan Curriculum Framework and are
used as measures of accountability on
the Michigan Education Yes! program.
MI-Access
is designed for students for
whom the IEP Team has determined that
the MEAP assessments, even with
assessment accommodations, are not
appropriate for the student.
These assessments are given annually
and the results assessments are also
part of the Education Yes! program.
Michigan Merit Exam (MME)
the new high school assessment will be
administered for the first time in March
2007.

Parent Information
Michigan Promise Scholarship
Public Act 479 of 2006 signed into law
by Governor Granholm on December 21, 2006,
provides up to $4,000 to high school
graduates for successfully completing two
years of postsecondary education beginning
with the high school graduating class of
2007.

Technical assistance with the development of
classroom and district assessments, as well
as, surveys are available.

Authentic
Assessment
Authentic Assessment seeks to
collect information and synthesize that
information on a student's ability to
understand and apply knowledge and process
skills in real world situations.
Classroom Assessment
Classroom assessment is primarily made up of
formative and summative assessments. These
assessments may occur using the following
methods, selected response, constructed
responses, products and personal
communication. Assessments are not only
paper and pencil type tests, but
performances, creation of products, and
communication between the students and
teacher through dialogue or writing.
Standardized Tests/Large Scale
Assessments
Dr. Backes and Dr. Czerwinski are
available to work with school districts in
the section of standardized assessments.
Michigan Curriculum Framework &
Assessment
Grade Level Content Expectations (GLCE's)
have been developed and approved by the
Michigan State Board of Education for grades
K-8 for English Language Arts, Mathematics
and Social Studies. Science GLCE's are
currently being revised. Other curriculum
standards and benchmarks for other
curricular areas are also available.
The High School Content Expectations (HSCE)
for English Language Arts,
Mathematics,Science and Social Studies have
been approved by the State Board. Please

North Central Accreditation (NCA)
Dr. Judith Backes is an NCA Ambassador and
is the NCA contact person at Macomb ISD. Dr.
Backes works with the NCA office every year
to schedule a variety of workshops at MISD.
Dr. Backes works with school improvement
teams that are using NCA school improvement
process. Our office is able to help
districts with the following:
- Profile Development
- Data Analysis
- Development and Writing of Goals
- Development of Action Plans which
include - strategies and interventions,
assessment and professional development
plans
- Assessments for Baseline and End of
Cycle Results - developing or acquiring
assessments
- Survey Development
- Preparation for Visiting Team Site

Paraprofessional Information
Macomb ISD offers training for those
individuals interested in taking the ETS
Parapro Assessment. Those individuals who
pass the test successfully are certified as
required by NCLB and Title I. MISD
also offers the computerized version of the
ETS Parapro Assessment for paraprofessionals
wishing to take this test. Interested
individuals can sign up for the training
workshop and/or the test. Choose VIEW BY
INTEREST, and then choose ASSESSMENT.
