- NEW BUSINESS-
a) Parent Survey- Liz reviewed the Parent Survey that was sent to identify topics of interest for presentations. The top 3 topics were Estate Planning, Communication Workshop, and Lifting & Transferring. It was decided that since we had done a lifting workshop last spring we would schedule the Estate Planning for January (Liz) and the Communication Workshop in April. Also consider a Sign Language Workshop in the future
b) State Budget- Discussed the status of the budget in Michigan and that parents from all Macomb County districts will be going to Lansing at various times to discuss their concerns over education funding. A group from Peters will be going on Thursday 11/12. Shelly Petty represented the MISD in a discussion with Governor Granholm when she visited Macomb ISD .
c) Christmas Bazaar- Date for Bazaar is set for 12/11. Janie Napoli has agreed to help coordinate the day. Parents were encouraged if they could help buying gifts which can be sold in the Bazaar. Sign up sheet will be sent out for volunteers to help with the Bake Sale, Gift Wrapping, working in sale and all other jobs.
Parent Group also agreed to purchase a WII console and hold a raffle during weeks leading up to Bazaar. Drawing held the day of Bazaar. Fred Warner agreed to purchase WII console and extra controller.
d) Literacy Kits- Idea proposed to Parent Group that several teachers would like to create a literacy or pre-academic kit for students. This would include things to help with numbers, colors, shapes, reading sight words, and many other things. We would establish age and then student would get a kit when they attained that age so we would avoid duplicity. Parent Group agreed to donate profits from Bake sale to support this effort. Gina Bova will coordinate this project.
