·        MLPP

·        Handouts developed by the ISD

·        Seasonal partners sheet

·        Sign-in sheets, name tags and evaluations

·        A-V equipment, usually an overhead and a VCR (If you need anything else, call the curriculum office of the hosting district to make arrangements.)

·        Copies of your case studies

·        Overheads for assessment & analysis

·        Chart paper

 

Review of Module 7:

   (25 minutes)

ü        Partners-discuss choice of phonemic awareness activity.  How did it go?  What level did you choose and what happened?

ü        Have people break up into 4 corners based on the 1st vowel in their name (a,e,i,o & u together) and each person in group shares 1 concern from 3 assessments administered for homework and then members of the group brainstorm an instructional strategy to try with the child.

Introduce & practice today's assessments

  (45 minutes)

ü        1st - Hearing & Recording Sounds

o       Introduce assessment - how to administer & score

o       Practice scoring 1-2 together

o       Practice scoring 1 more with a partner & discuss results

ü        Instructional tie-in - phonemic awareness level:

o       Segmenting (3 quick ways to teach segmenting)

ü        2nd - Known Words - Introduce assessment - how to administer & score

o       Analyze sample assessments together (What are things we look for)

-        all the same rimes

-        How do they blend

-        vowel development

-        letters in reverse

-        upper/lower case

ü        3rd - Sight Words - Introduce assessment & how to score

ü        4th - Instructional Practice

o       Word Study (word walls)

o       Making Words (highest level of phonemic awareness)

BREAK

  (15 minutes)

 

Case Study

  (1 hour)

ü        Go over your case study with participants

o       Should be a tutorable child according to Slavin’s study.

o       Share your findings and model how each finding leads to more questions.

o       Have participants share ideas for teaching points.

ü        Show “Finding the Key” video – stop at point and have discussion.

o        Relate information back to your case study child.

ü        have participants work in groups of 3 to help each other add information to question 5 on their case study questionnaire.

Assignment

  (10 minutes)

ü        Administer 3 assessments learned today on your case study (Due at Module 9).  Fill out Analysis Information Sheet

ü        Evaluations

ü        Add more information to question 5 on the case study questionnaire. (Due at Module 9)
