Event Description
Target Audience: K-12 Science Teachers, Coaches, and Administrators
Description: The Science and Engineering Practices (SEPs) are an integral part of K-12 science education and a foundational element of building scientifically literate citizens. Through the SEP Study Segments, teachers will participate in an evening of deep study focused on one of the SEPs and a full-day site visit where they will engage with the SEP in a hands-on, real-life context.
Evening study sessions will include scholarly learning, lively discussion, and practical applications to be used in the classroom for improving student engagement and learning.
Full-day site visits will immerse teachers in the SEP of study in a real-life approach. Participants will gain hands-on experience working with the SEP of study in the field to give real-life application to the SEP that can pertain to all students at any grade level. Past sites have included Covaron Advanced Materials, American Axle Manufacturing World Headquarters, and the Detroit Zoo.
**Participants MUST attend the evening study session to attend the site visit. Participants may attend the evening study session without attending the site visit.**
A light dinner will be provided in the evening session and lunch will be provided for the full day site visit.
